Kenya’s last General Elections were held in 2022, with William Ruto, Raila Odinga, George Wajackoyah, and David Mwaure as the main contestants.

Results of the 2022 presidential elections

In 2022, William Ruto won the presidential election with 50.49% of the votes, garnering a total of 7,176,141 votes.[1]

Raila Odinga came in second with 48.85% of the votes, garnering a total of 6,942,930 votes.

William Ruto received the highest number of votes from Kiambu, 606,429, followed by Nairobi, 561,775, and Nakuru, 455,864.

On the other hand, Raila Odinga received the highest number of votes from Nairobi, 767,395, followed by Kisumu, 419,997, and Homa Bay, 399,784.

Number of registered voters and the voter turnout by county

The 2022 Kenya general election had a voter turnout of 64.77%. The county with the highest voter turnout was Baringo at 80%, followed by West Pokot and Kericho at 79%.

The counties with the lowest voter turnout were Mombasa, at 44%, Kilifi, at 49%, and Garissa and Kwale, at 55%.

The diaspora had a voter turnout of 58%, with 6,032 votes cast.

Number of votes cast by county

The county that recorded the highest number of votes cast was Nairobi, with 1,352,236. It was followed by Kiambu, with 830,826, and Nakuru, with 691,673.

The counties with the lowest number of votes cast were Lamu, with 50,957, followed by Isiolo, with 59,514, and Samburu, with 70,688.
