The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently released its 2025 World Economic Outlook.[1]
The new data highlights the GDP per Capita of countries in the world, including those in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This article lists Sub-Saharan African countries by their Gross Domestic Product per capita in both constant and current prices.[2]
Quick Facts
- Seychelles, Mauritius and Gabon had the highest GDP per Capita in 2025.
- Kenya was ranked fourteenth in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a GDP per capita of $2,468.
- South Sudan and Burundi had the lowest GDP per capita of $251 and $490, respectively.
Sub-Saharan Africa: Gross Domestic Product per capita – Current Prices
The country with the highest GDP per capita at current prices was Seychelles at $21,633. Mauritius followed it with a GDP per capita of $12,332.
Gabon had the third-highest GDP per capita at $8,842. The chart below shows the Gross Domestic Product per capita in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Note that the gross domestic product per capita in current prices does not account for inflation and differences in living costs between countries.
We use the GDP per capita in constant prices to account for inflation and the costs of living in different countries. Constant prices also account for Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) based on 2021 prices.
Sub-Saharan Africa: GDP per Capita in constant prices
The GDP per capita in constant prices controls the cost of living and inflation between countries, therefore giving a more accurate perspective of the economic well-being of each country.
In 2025, Seychelles had the highest GDP per Capita in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) at $36,002.
Mauritius followed it with a GDP per Capita of $28,204, then Gabon at $21,346.
Kenya had a GDP per capita at constant prices of $6,457.
Sudan had the lowest GDP per Capita in PPP, at $614, followed by Burundi, at $870, and the Central African Republic, at $1,140.
