Introduction
Bungoma County is located in Western Kenya and had a population of 1,816,000 in 2024. According to the 2019 census, the county's total population was 1,670,570, consisting of 358,796 households, with an average household size of 4.6 people.
Bungoma County had a total land area of 3,023.9 and a population density of 552 people per square kilometer.
Bungoma County is bordered to the West by Uganda, to the north by Trans Nzoia, to the East by Kakamega, and to the South West by Busia.
Bungoma County has 13 sub-counties, including Bumula, Bungoma Central, Bungoma East, Bungoma North, Bungoma South, Cheptais, Kimilili-Bungoma, Mt. Elgon, Bungoma West, Tongaren, Webuye West, and Mt. Elgon Forest.

Bungoma County Marital Status
The percentage distribution of women aged 12 years and above in Bungoma County who were never married in 2019 was 39.5%. Those in monogamous marriages were 47.5%, while those in polygamous marriages were 4.3%. The distribution of widows in Bungoma was 6.1%, divorced 0.8%, and separated 1.8%.

Bungoma County Finance
In the financial year (FY) 2023/24, Bungoma County approved a supplementary budget of Ksh 15.23 billion, comprising Ksh 5.28 billion (34.7%) and Ksh 9.95 billion (65.3%) allocation for development and recurrent expenditures, respectively.
The budget estimates represented an increase of 2.8% compared to the previous year when it was Ksh 14.82 billion and comprised Ksh 4.45 billion for development and Ksh 10.38 billion for recurrent expenditures.
