Garissa County is located in North Eastern Province and had a population of 949,000 in 2024. According to the 2019 census, it had a total population of 841,353 people, 141,394 households, and an average household size of 5.9 people per household.

Garissa County had a total land area of 44,736 square kilometres and a population density of 33 people per square kilometre in 2019.

Garissa County is bordered to the North by Wajir, to the East by Somalia, to the South by Lamu, to the West by the Tana River, and to the North-West by Isiolo County.

Marital Status

The percentage distribution of women aged 12 and above in Garissa County who were never married in 2019 was 42.3%, while those married monogamous was 49.3%.
