Taita Taveta is located in Coast Province and had a total population of 368,000 in 2024. According to the 2019 census, Taita Taveta had a total population of 340,671 people, comprising 96,429 households and an average household size of 3.5 people per household.

Taita Taveta County has a total land area of 17,152 square kilometres and a population density of 20 people per square kilometre. 

Taita Taveta County is bordered to the North by Makueni and Kitui, North East by Tana River, East by Kilifi and Kwale, South by Tanzania, and the West by Kajiado.

Marital Status

The percentage distribution of women aged 12 and above in Taita Taveta County who were never married was 36.8% in 2019, while those who were married monogamously was 48.7%. Taita Taveta County Finance

In the financial year 2023/24, Taita Taveta County approved a supplementary budget of Ksh 7.50 billion, comprising Ksh 2.32 billion (31.1%) and Ksh 5.17 billion (68.9%) allocation for development and recurrent programs, respectively.

The budget estimates represented an increase of 4.3% compared to the previous year when it was Ksh 7.19 billion and comprised of Ksh 2.19 billion towards development and Ksh 4.99 billion for recurrent expenditures.
