Introduction

Elgeyo Marakwet had a total population of 502,000 people in 2024. According to the 2019 population and housing census, the Elgeyo Marakwet had a total population of 454,480 people. The total number of households in the county was 99,861, and the average household size was 4.4 people per household.

Elgeyo Marakwet has a total land area of 3,032 square kilometers and a population density of 150 people per square kilometer.

Elgeyo Marakwet is bordered to the North by West Pokot, the East by Baringo, the West by Uasin Gishu, and the North West by Trans Nzoia.

Elgeyo Marakwet had four sub-counties: Keiyo North, Keiyo South, Marakwet East, and Marakwet West.

Elgeyo Marakwet had an average Gross County Product at current prices of Ksh 120.75 billion between 2018 and 2022, representing an average county contribution to Gross Value Added of 1.1%.

Marital Status

The percent distribution of women aged 12 and above in Elgeyo Marakwet who were never married in 2019 was 43.1%, while those who were in monogamous marriages were 48.4%.
